Today is Saturday. I took my son Timmy to Pawtucket's ice skating rink. Timmy was testing for skating level 2. He passed all the rounds of the test. He had the passing certificate, and ran toward me smiling. I'm very proud of him.
Welcome to our blog. Here students from the library ESOL class share some of their journal entries with you.
This year we have asked students to keep a writing journal. Over the last few months they have written on many different topics: how their day went, a cherished family member, a holiday, their first time voting, coming to the US, looking for a job, etc.
As one student wrote, the journals are an individual "bridge" between the students and the teacher. Yet students were curious about what their classmates had written and one day they decided as a group to have everyone select one of their favorite entries and put it on the Internet. In addition, we decided to record the student stories in their own voices. That way students personalize the experience even more and other students can utilize different language skills in understanding their classmates.
